Two cases where I may be detecting the influence of this play.
Number one: The Shakespeare fan who I believe slept (at some point) with Shakespeare plays by his bed, and who referred to one of his early sponsors as a sheep “Bester Herr Graf, du bist ein Schaf” (Dear Count, you are a sheep) – Beethoven to Count Lichnowsky.
Number two: the band of brigands, who while hiding in a secret location are really aristocrats gone astray – step forward The Pirates of Penzance
Sheep jokes and a comedy dog. What’s not to like?
